Kitchen Worktop Transformation from Green Marble to Modern Grey
The worktop in this Glasgow kitchen was green marble. It no longer matched the rest of the room.
The wall behind it had been retiled in a cooler shade, and the floor had been replaced with something more modern. The green worktop sat in the middle of both, out of step with the new tile and flooring.
The homeowner didn’t want a full kitchen refit, and they didn’t need one!
Their cupboards were already bespoke and exactly what they wanted, so replacing the whole kitchen made no sense just to fix one surface.
A worktop wrap solved the actual problem instead, without the mess or fuss of ripping the whole kitchen out.

The brief for this kitchen worktop transformation
The brief was narrow and specific: change the worktop, leave everything else alone.
A marble grey finish was chosen to sit alongside the tiled wall and the flooring rather than fight against them. Green marble reads warm against a cool-toned room, and grey doesn’t.
At Wrap Wizard, we always take the time to understand what you genuinely need.

Choosing a grey marble-effect finish
Granite and quartz worktops hold their colour well and resist scratching, which is why they’re a common choice in kitchen makeovers.
But replacement worktops mean a completely new fabricated top, a fitter on site for the swap, and a kitchen out of action during the renovation.
A marble-effect vinyl wrap gets close to that stone look without any of that disruption and a lot less of the cost! It’s a made-to-measure wrap fitted over the existing worktop and cut to its exact shape.
It isn’t a slab replacement, and it isn’t one of the resin worktop overlays poured on top of what’s already there.
The grey chosen here has the same soft veining and faint sparkle that made the green worktop distinctive. But just in a colour that suits the room.
Wrapping the worktop
Before starting any job, we need to make sure the surface is a good candidate for wrapping.
In this household, it was perfect! The worktop was free of any major marks or imperfections that could cause the wrap to fail down the line. So we were good to go.
The old green marble worktop was cleaned and degreased first, so the vinyl would bond properly instead of lifting at the edges later.
A worktop-only job like this one can often be fitted within a day, since there’s no cabinetry to work around.
Cutouts for the sink and hob got measured precisely, since a wrap has to sit flush around both rather than just covering the flat sections.
Both stayed fitted throughout the job, so the kitchen never went fully out of action the way it would during a worktop replacement.

How the new worktop works with the rest of the kitchen
The bespoke cupboard doors were the one thing the homeowners weren’t willing to touch, and they didn’t need to change.
Wrapping the worktop on its own left the cupboards exactly as they were, while the surface underneath finally matched them.
The tiled wall and the newer flooring both lean cool, and so does the grey marble-effect finish now sitting between them.
All three surfaces now share the beautiful and modern cool tone, where before the green worktop was the odd one out.

Frequently asked questions on worktop wrapping
Can I wrap just the worktop and not the whole kitchen?
Yes. The worktop and the cupboards can be wrapped separately, so if your cupboards already suit the room, there’s no need to touch them at all.
Will I be without my sink and hob?
No. Both stay fitted throughout the job. We wrap carefully around each cutout rather than removing appliances to get at the surface underneath.
Is the marble-effect finish durable and heat resistant?
It’s built to handle daily kitchen use, including hot pans set down briefly and everyday cleaning products. We’ll flag anything that needs extra care during a free home visit.
Can the same finish go on a kitchen splashback too?
Yes. If you’d like the marble grey carried onto splashbacks or the cupboard doors later, that’s a separate job. We can quote for it affordably alongside the worktop, or arrange it another time.
How is this different from a stone or resin worktop overlay?
An overlay sits on top of the existing worktop as a new layer, usually resin or a stone composite. It adds height and thickness to the surface. A vinyl wrap doesn’t add bulk. It’s a thin film fitted directly to what’s already there, so the worktop keeps its original profile.
